Overview

Overview

Objective

This is an application designed for electric vehicle drivers. Focus on helping drivers quickly find a charging station and complete charging, combined with the business goals of the commercial team.

Impact

Based on the basic charging features, we optimized the payment flow and added maps and subscription functions. This allows users to get more benefits and increase the number of members.

Role

I worked closely with Stakeholders, project manager and engineers. I was responsible for the entire UX and UI design, from defining the festures to deliver the final mockups.

Challenges

We needed to understand the charging behavior of EV drivers. Because it was an initial product, we wanted to launch ASAP, and balanced user needs and business goals.

Background

Background

Charging Service

This product focused on providing friendly charging for EV drivers. In this product, we must consider the hardware limitations of the charging station and the interaction with the management console and installation program.

User App

EV drivers can use Noodoe app to find charging stations and track the status of charging. After the first version was launched, the team began to provide more functions for registered members to increase the number of members.

Definition of Users

In order to empathize with the users, we created the persona and user journeys, which are based purely on experience and assumptions. These serve as a starting point to reflect on the needs and challenges of the user and possible solutions that can be considered later in building the information architecture.

1. Finding a charging station, quickly starting charging, and tracking the charging status are the main tasks.
Driver Persona

2. Journey to Key Features

We found user needs from the journey, define key functions to make the charging behavior smoother, and make improvements by user feedback or business goals.

Goal & Defination

After several rounds of discussions, we prioritizes the completion of basic services, such as activation of charging stations, payment, and charging status reminders. After finishing these functions, we kept implemented the charging map and subscription to make the service more commercial.

Goal

EV drivers can get a friendly charging experience through the app.

MVP

1. Scan QR code to activate charging station.
2. Use Apple Pay / Google Pay, credit cards to pay.
3. Get notification when the charging completed.
4. Check charging history.

Optimization

1. Quickly search nearby charging station by charging map.
2. Subscription for frequent users.

What Have We Done
EV app UI flow

1. Pricing Mode

With the needs of business and customers, we found that the pricing model needs to be more diversified. According to the setting of the web console, users can see the current price before charging.

2. Charging Map

Drivers can set their own preferences to find Noodoe or other brand chargers and check the status of available charging stations.

3. Member Subscription

Based on business model, drivers can subscribe and pay a monthly fee to get cheaper charging price. The subscription will be automatically charged by the system and the user will be notified when a problem occurs.

4. Always Friendly Charge

We found that other brands need to download App to charge, which is a pain point for users. We have developed a web version that allows users to charge directly without an app. But we only provide a simple charging function to keep the app unique and necessary.
